Lock and Key founder Tony Perrin is a museum nerd at heart and cherishes the many memories and numerous hours he has spent in museums around the world. It all began with "field trips" with his mom and sisters to LACMA and the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles when he was a kid. His passion for the mystery and allure of a museum has only grown throughout the years, and today a museum is a must-see wherever he might be traveling.
His collaborations with national art institutions such as Winterthur Museum in Winterthur, Delaware, The Getty Museum in Los Angeles, Ca, The Frist in Nashville, TN, and The Plant Museum in Tampa, FL, to name a few, have been most rewarding. Telling important stories of their heritage through his artisan jewelry creates an even deeper tie to museums, art education, and the power of connecting his creative voice to the visual arts.

Winterthur Museum- An Estate's Details Live On
The relationship with Winterthur Museum began in 2022. A relationship based on authenticity through storytelling, the exclusive product development began with Henry Francis du Pont and his passion for the decorative arts. The details that enveloped the estate, both within the garden and its interiors, fueled Tony's imagination. Details from garden statues to the lock plates themselves within the cottage, architectural details became the design inspiration.
The Getty- Reaches for the Stars
When Tony was approached to develop a product inspired by the exhibition, his excitement began with the simple concept of the sun, moon, stars, their mystique, and how a people built their lives around their movement. The curation contextualized medieval art with contemporary art.
The Getty transformed into a major center for medieval history primarily because of its world-class collection of illuminated manuscripts, anchored by the historic 1983 acquisition of 144 masterworks from the Ludwig Collection and this exhibition.
The Frist and the Living Canvas
Bringing paintings to life and extending the guests’ experience to include artisan interpretations of art was the inspiration behind creating living canvases for Tony. Sculpting, painting, and rendering at a miniature scale is romantic and harkens back to lovers’ eye jewelry and the lure of Victorian jewelry. Capturing art in a wearable, modern form allows the guests to incorporate art into their everyday life.
