Mary Fields, also known as Stage Coach Mary, or Black Mary, was an American mail carrier, who was the first black woman to be employed as a star route postwoman in the United States. Mary built a reputation of being fearless. Mary’s job was not only to deliver the mail, but to also protect the mail from bandits, thieves, wolves and the weather as well.
